FAQ

What is THCa?

THCa, or tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw cannabis. It’s the precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the compound responsible for the “high” associated with cannabis use. THCa converts into THC when it’s heated — a process known as decarboxylation. That means THCa won’t get you high unless it's heated through smoking, vaping, or cooking.

Does THCa Get You High?

Not on its own. THCa is non-psychoactive in its raw form. However, once it’s heated, it converts into THC, which is psychoactive. So, yes — if you smoke or vape THCa flower, it will deliver effects nearly identical to traditional high-THC cannabis.

Is THCa Legal?

Yes — THCa is federally legal in the United States under the 2018 Farm Bill as long as the product contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. That means THCa flower is often sold legally in states where recreational cannabis isn’t yet available, though laws vary by state. Always check your local regulations.

What’s the Difference Between THCa and THC?

THCa

  • Non-psychoactive
  • Found in raw cannabis
  • Legal under Farm Bill (if < 0.3% Δ9-THC)
  • Common in hemp flower

THC

  • Psychoactive
  • Created through heat (decarboxylation)
  • Controlled substance (in many states)
  • Common in marijuana flower

How Do You Use THCa?

You can use THCa in several ways:

  • Smoking or Vaping: Heats THCa, converting it to THC for a traditional high.
  • Dabbing: Great for concentrates like THCa diamonds.
  • Juicing or Raw Use: Some users consume raw cannabis for potential health benefits, without the high.
  • Infusions: THCa can be added to edibles or topicals if properly decarbed first.

Will THCa Show Up on a Drug Test?

Yes. Even though THCa itself is non-psychoactive, once heated and converted to THC, it can trigger a positive result on drug tests that screen for THC metabolites. Play it safe if you’re subject to testing.

What Are the Potential Benefits of THCa?

While research is still ongoing, studies and anecdotal reports suggest THCa may have several therapeutic properties:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Neuroprotective
  • Antiemetic (reduces nausea)
  • Appetite stimulation
  • Anti-proliferative (potential in cancer research)

These benefits are still being studied, and THCa is not currently approved by the FDA to treat any medical conditions.

What Are THCa Diamonds?

THCa Diamonds are highly concentrated crystalline forms of THCa — often 90%+ purity — typically used for dabbing. They’re potent, clean, and deliver a strong THC experience once heated. They're called "diamonds" because of their sparkling appearance and purity.

Can THCa Be Shipped in the Mail?

Yes, if it's compliant with the 2018 Farm Bill (contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight), THCa products can legally be shipped across the U.S. However, some states have specific bans or restrictions — we always recommend checking your local laws before ordering.

What's the Best Way to Store THCa Products?

To preserve potency and freshness:

  • Keep flower in an airtight container
  • Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight
  • Avoid excessive humidity or moisture
  • Refrigerate concentrates like diamonds if needed, but avoid freezing

Is THCa Synthetic?

No. THCa is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in raw cannabis and hemp. It’s not synthesized in a lab — it’s part of the plant’s natural chemistry.

How Does THCa Feel Compared to Delta-9 THC?

When decarbed, THCa feels nearly identical to Delta-9 THC because that's exactly what it becomes. Most users report a familiar cerebral buzz, body high, relaxation, and euphoria. The effects depend on the strain, terpene profile, and your individual tolerance.

Is THCa Safe?

Generally, yes — THCa is considered safe and well-tolerated in its natural form. That said:

  • Always buy from trusted sources with lab-tested products
  • Avoid inhaling large amounts if you're new to cannabis
  • Be mindful of potency — especially with concentrates

How Do I Read a COA (Certificate of Analysis) for THCa?

A COA will typically include:

  • THCa % (most important for potency)
  • Delta-9 THC % (must be under 0.3% for legal compliance)
  • Terpene profile
  • Residual solvents, pesticides, heavy metals (for safety testing)

We publish full lab results for every batch of product here at MyDankDepot so you always know exactly what you're getting.

Where Does MyDankDepot’s THCa Come From?

We partner with small-batch, U.S. growers who specialize in high-potency, legally compliant THCa flower. Every strain is third-party tested for quality, compliance, and cannabinoid content before it ever reaches your hands.

What Should I Look for When Buying THCa Products?

Here’s a quick checklist:

  • ✅ Clear COA with high THCa % and <0.3% Δ9-THC
  • ✅ Grown in the U.S. (preferably organically)
  • ✅ Terpene-rich strains (check for aroma, effect profile)
  • ✅ Transparent sourcing & third-party lab testing
  • ✅ Reviews from real customers
